Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is an icon, and here's why

There are few beauty brands that do it as ‘right’ as Clarins. With skincare, makeup and fragrance on offer, its appeal spans widely. The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted with one of its tinted lip balms, and the Queen is said to favorite Clarins’ Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, too.

And now, one of Clarins’ bestselling products has just turned 40. Clarins’ Beauty Flash Balm, £34, has recently had a reformulation, and according to our editors and the fanfare online, the product has never been better. And there’s other good news: the brand has launched a Beauty Flash Peel, £38, to accompany it.

What is Clarins’ Beauty Flash Balm?

Think of it as a skincare-makeup hybrid. The gel-cream is hydrating enough for those with normal to oily skin types to skip their moisturiser; They’ll find it lends enough hydration to plump up skin and supply moisture. Those with drier skin types will likely still need a richer cream underneath to quench any real dry patches, but will welcome the added hydration from this product.

It’s best used as the last step of your skincare routine, and the first step of your makeup routine (as a primer, essentially). The name ‘Flash Balm’ is accurate: thanks to a thoughtful formula full of radiance-boosting ingredients, a small amount of this makes light work of perking up tired skin. Where other glow boosting primers fall flat – namely with chunks of glitter or sparkle – this gives a seriously natural glow that looks healthy and grown-up.

Use it under a lightweight foundation or concealer and you’ll see the radiance underneath. The texture – a lightweight gel-cream – also makes it an ideal base, which helps makeup adhere to it brilliantly.

The eagle-eyed Clarins fans among us will have noticed another product to have arrived in the Beauty Flash range: the Beauty Flash Peel, £38. Designed to be used as a treatment 2-3 times per week (although this will depend on your skin type), consider this peel-off mask a radiance-booster that’s more skin deep than its primer counterpart.

Amongst a host of natural ingredients that we know (and love) from Clarins, they’ve combined two types of chemical exfoliants – glycolic and salicylic acid – to hoover up any dead skin cells and reveal brighter, more evenly textured skin.

It’s a genius move from the brand, and we can’t wait to use the two products together. You can shop the iconic Beauty Flash Balm, and the newly launched Beauty Flash Peel, below.
